My terrible experience with San Diego's Camp Diggity Dog

This is going to be a long post but if you care about your dogs I suggest you read it....

My wife and I have a playful cavashon puppy (12 lbs - 6 months old). We decided to take him to camp diggity dog since it had a good location (close to us) and an outdoor area. He was good for the first week and loved to play with the other dogs...they would let him play with the big dogs for a few hours (under supervision) and then take him inside to be with the small dogs.

Yesterday I get a call from Ted (the owner). He leaves a voice mail stating that our dog (Bentley) got a "little roughed up" and seems to be tender. I call him back and he tells me that one of his people saw the whole thing and that Bentley was trampled by a bigger dog but seemed to be getting better (Cover up #1). I called my wife, who immediately went to pick him up. As a side note they have 4 phone numbers to call in case of emergency and only 1 was called where they left a VM and thats it.

My wife gets to camp diggity dog and calls me upset saying Bentley was bitten, is swollen badly in areas and is limping (sounds like an emergency to me!!!). She takes him to the vet, who says that he has been bitten more than 3 distinct times - left arm, right leg and chest (seems a little different than getting trampled). The bites were so bad that they created air pockets in the abdominal cavity causing Bentley to breathe erratically. He is on morphine and other pain killers and we have to look at his gums every hour to make sure he is breathing right and not turning blue. (Very upsetting)

I get the report from the doctor and called Ted. I tell him we were told Bentley was attacked and bit and that I want the real story. He says he has to talk to the person who saw it. He calls me back and says that the person saw Bentley and the other dog playing and that the other dog had his mouth on Bentley which is when he must have bit him. (Cover up #2).

I talk to Ted a 3rd time later in the day, after we have handled the Bentley situation with the doctor. He claims that he never told me someone saw the whole thing and that in fact (version #3) no one was out there with the dogs when Bentley was bit (contrary to what they told us). The latest story is that they heard a yelp from Bentley and ran outside at which point it looked like they the dogs were playing (I doubt it since at this point he was bitten so badly he could barely breathe).

Ted then says he feels really bad and asks what we want him to do, while aggressively denying doing anything wrong. At this point I would have hoped that any business person or even human with decency would have offered to help pay for Bentley's medical bills (no such offer). When I suggested that he could help he became aggressive and angry and stated "so this is all about the MONEY for you" - WHAT????? Are you kidding me? We pay for our dog to be taken care of and safe, we expect to get him back the way we dropped him off, not mangled due to negligence and instead of oh my god we will do whatever we can, we get this from Ted. I was shocked and angry!!!

I ended the call by saying that he should think about it and call me back with what he thinks is the right thing to do and an sincere apology. Today we get an email rather than call where Ted again primarily defends himself and the company (obviously more important than our dogs health) and offers to have Bentley come to the camp for free for 15 days (no thank you - how can we trust them again? especially after the poor interactions we have had after the event).

I call him back later in the day and try to remain calm. I tell him we are not comfortable leaving Bentley there and we would like a refund of the remainder of our money, as well as anything he thinks is right to help us with for Bentley's medical bills....

He loses it again and starts with "this is about money for you" Is he INSANE???? If he did the right thing - like anyone else would have and offered to pay from the beginning, we probably would not have accepted it and thanked him for caring about our situation and doing the right thing....instead we get this completely immature and unacceptable reaction...

Things happen, how you react to those things defines your character...in my opinion and our experience, the owner has poor character, acts negligently and is more concerned about money and his business than your dog...

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU USE ANOTHER PLACE!!!
